Wow Silas,

I'm sorry you had those issues. i have had a similar problem on other coffee makers as well if they don't seat properly under the spout, but hadn't had that issue specifically with the Speak n Brew. I have a failsafe for my coffee pot in work which basically sits in a pan to keep it from overflowing, but most electronics on these items are in the top of the machine. Have you contacted the company about this problem? I usually try to make sure that the pots in all my coffee makers sit perpendicular to the machine, so the handle is either to the left or the right. My wonky machine in work overflows every time i put the handle sticking straight out from the machine. I would contact the company to see what they say. Thanks for the input

I recently purchased Primula SAB-3001 Speak n Brew 10 Cup Coffee Maker on 2/15/10. I have got say that this is possibly the most dangerous coffee maker I have ever used. I have set it for auto three mornings in a row and each morning when I go to get coffee, the coffee is all over the counter and floor. The heating pad is covered with coffee and I would assume the wiring inside as well. I have stopped using it.

Hi - nice site and informative post... Thanks! You should take a look at Controlled Labs White Flood if you like caffeine. It's usually used before workout, but is cheaper than other energy drinks and has no calories.

I'd rather just not have a mac? Is that a valid option? I don't mean to be "that guy," but I just don't get why I would buy a mac. Until this Christmas I was using a laptop from '02, and it ran fine except when gaming I had to strap and extra fan onto it. So yeah, can anyone explain to me why I would want a mac at usually 200% mark up when what makes non Macs obsolete is the hardware rather than software (I'm pretty sure anything running win 95 is obsolete but the last computer I had that ran it died a long time ago)

I thought of the flash light thing when I the ping pong story as well. It's cool to hear that you use that. I was sad to see so little coffee news. Although the tech stuff was pretty cool especially the NINJA NEXUS ONE unboxing. Thanks for the share. - Have a good week.

it seems to me that these bottles would also keep the clothes a little more straight. Like those really nice hangers you get for tuxedos. Just make sure to rinse them out first. :)

Hi Katherine,

from the sound of things you might need to run all the parts through the dishwasher, get a nice good hot rinse to clean the plastic. I might also try to clean the filter itself. ALso you coul try replaceing the metal filter with a paper one from the supermarket to see if that is the issue.

If you still have an odd taste i'd write to the company and inform them of the problem. Give them a chance to respond and fix this issues. Sorry you had a bad experience. Also a good way to clean any coffee maker is with a half vinegar half water solution run it through the system then run 2 changes of clean water through. Hope this helps

I just purchased the speak and brew. the brewed coffee does not taste right. It has a funky, plastic or tin taste. I washed the lid and basket before brewing and have run hot water through it several times. Do you know of anything that might be making the coffee taste funky?

Very rarely do i have interviews or guests. I've had 2 people on the show, Mike Rohde (Coffee SketchNote Calendar) and Chris Parandian (FCC Spectrum auction) as ad hoc interviews. I've had my parents on as guest hosts for Mother's and Father's days respectively but other than that no not really. And one "live" coffee tasting at a local pub with my good friend dave. So 5 guests on 400+ episodes isn't too high of a percentage.

In the future I'd love to work on upping that percentage but i need to get better at scheduling and planning ahead for that to really work.

i would suggest repetition, and i'm resisting every urge in my body to repeat that statement. But honestly buying a cheap notebook and working on something every day makes you better. I get bad out of habit, don't want to mess the sketchkbook up with crap and end up filling it with extra paper. But everything is a process. I usually work with pen because it seems to flow easier. but pencils you can erase

I was also excited to see Sweet Maria's as the feature sponsor on Coffee Kids. It's great to see the coffee industry coming together to help with such a huge need.

Funny childhood anecdote brought back some memories for me of trying to eat faster than my uncle when it was taco night at my house, as a kid.

great episode. $90 in one day for coffee is pretty extravagant but would be fun! New Brews is funny and a really inventive way for The Real Ben Brown to draw attention to his site. Fun stuff thanks for the coffee news! 4 years running, I can only imagine what it feels like. I am at a little over year and it feels like just yesterday I recorded my first video. Keep up the excellent work.

I understand that piece and its a great view on the business behind it. No one expects people to play by the rules, but everyone has to have a good story to cover it. The motto of this whole thing should be it's just business.

This speech kind of helped me understand how the Chinese see a good number of the restrictions and the attitude of the people in the west. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30z4ctOAZ2M unfortunatly its not the whole thing... can't seem to find that

Hi MAS, while tumblr might siphon off some traffic it also provides a quick way to publish content and exposes a larger community of people who might not normally see your content or your thoughts to your stuff.

I've been thinking about moving some of the content from there to here.

I have yet to understand Tumblr and Posterous for people that own their own domains. Both are great publishers and super easy to setup, but I think they just serve to siphon traffic from established sites to their servers. Maybe I am wrong.

Hi Ace,

Thanks for the feedback. Well as for the ad its helps pay for the show to stick around so I need to keep it in there. As for the other introductory stuff, it honestly depends on the episode how much is used. I try to cut to the chase as much as possible but I'm a long winded guy in general. Its always nice to have someone let you know when you're taking a bit long to get to the meat and or the potatoes, I'll try to cut back on thefluff and amp up the cruft in the future, but i'm making no promises. Especially with this episode. It was a big announcement to make and very important to me. I'd like to think that the people who normally might listen in to the show might be interested.

Also given the normal length of the show (35-40 minutes) a 7 minute lead up would only end up being 18.8% of the show. ;-) Trust me a 25 minute show is a rare bird around here indeed.

Thanks again for the comment and I hope you'll stick around to check out the show again.

I can't help but notice that you waste 7 minutes at the start of your 24:43 long show with ads and stating how great the rest of the stuff you're going to talk about is. This is 28.32% of the total show. Why not just do your ad and do the show without so much talk about the talk you're going to talk about?
