Today’s show is a bit off kilter from what we usually do. I switched machines for recording and the CaffiNation Lair is quite silent right now. The correct way to record is to isolate any extra noise, so this is the closest i’ve had yet to perfect conditions. Great content from front to back a bit of serious in the middle. We are recovering from a long weekend of family fun and work.

Thanksgiving is upon us here in the United states a day to give thanks for what you cherish in life. I am Thankful for my wonderful family who support me in this podcast. I am also thankful for my job at this point because I know so many who have lost theirs, and I am thankful for all of you who come back each show to share this experience with me. Today’s show had a hoard of fun Turkey Tech and a ton of great food links. We flipped the show around because Hey, Its thanksgiving the food always comes first!

How many people know the worth of their files?
You will only truly know after they are gone. I was recently asked to review a piece of backup software. Siber Systems Goodsync Pro. I have to tell you i was excited by the opportunity because this is one of the areas in my computer life where I am the least vigilant. As a technical support person I often tell people to backup their documents, on occasion I even do it myself. The process, either via Windows Briefcase, in house backup solutions or simply burning items to a CD is time consuming and frustrating. Quite often the users don’t end up backing anything up and I’m forced to try and recover their files or my own. I have had hard drives fail. All of my experiences have taught me something. The dirty truth about backing files up is that no one likes to do it because its boring, and is often justified as time that could be better off spent doing something else. Since no one likes to do it, its hard to figure out and takes up your time, no one does. And this is a problem waiting to happen.

This show was recorded while i had a fever so i would like to say that i’m not responsible for anything that was said in my delusional state, but we all know that’s bunk. This time of the year my sleeping habits always catch up to me. Staying home with the boy was rewarding and exhausting but also put me here. But like scarlet O’Hara I always depend on the kindness of strangers, over half the links in today’s show were sent in by listeners, which didn’t even know how rough this weekend was. This episode is what happens when you are stuck writing, producing and otherwise cramming content for this long. I love what do and I can only hope the episodes have been worth the fun. I’m starting to hone my workflow even more and I might just do a Making of The CaffiNation shortly. Let me know what anyone thinks of that. Might be another live show in the works too. Testing the waters. Speaking of waters I have been inundated with questions about how to make better coffee, what type of machine to buy ect. On today’s show i have a couple different tips for these questions, and I’ll be adding my own thoughts in as we go through them. I might also try my hand at writing a bit of a how to guide in the future, but not sure about it yet. A Long show with a ton of content and a bit of gab in between.

A show in honor of Legos. I love the idea behind the lego concept. Make anything out of small simple parts. The mindstorms are a boon for inventors everywhere but it doesn’t end there. These iconic childs toys are loved by people everywhere young and old. I have been inundated with lego stories lately so i decided to dedicate as much of a show as i could to the topic. I was stunned by the response and believe me the stories won’t stop here. There is enough other content on both sides of the coin to keep the show fresh.

Back to a sense of normalcy around here, so naturally some changes are brewing. For NaNoWriMo, national novel writing month, I’m going to be releasing a new podcast as a form of first draft audio book. We’ll see how it goes. Looking for feedback on it and the first chapter should go live this week. In other news I have been working on a new logo for the CaffiNation Podcast and i think we have a winner, as it should be the album art for today’s show, and most shows going forward. Not changing the site too much yet but i’m looking for feedback here as well.
