Hi Jay,

I have heard this complaint a lot recently. Unfortunately the product seems to either be discontinued or undergoing a redesign. Either of which would result in parts being hard to find. If i can find more information I'll send it your way

I just got this coffee maker about a week ago and had the same problem as one of the other people here. It wreaked of a plastic smell, and transfered it to the taste of my coffee. It's undrinkable. I've tried vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda. The smell is still there, although not as strong. I'm thinking I was just sent a dud because others would have commented on this smell. It's not something you'd miss, or put up with.

Not sure, my coffee is always hot but not scalding coming out of the machine, did you contact the vendor? there might be an issue with the heating coil. Although a lot of consumer coffee pots do tend to produce overly hot coffee, and scorch the beans in the process, not saying thats what happened in the past but it might be an answer. Good luck!

Wow Silas,

I'm sorry you had those issues. i have had a similar problem on other coffee makers as well if they don't seat properly under the spout, but hadn't had that issue specifically with the Speak n Brew. I have a failsafe for my coffee pot in work which basically sits in a pan to keep it from overflowing, but most electronics on these items are in the top of the machine. Have you contacted the company about this problem? I usually try to make sure that the pots in all my coffee makers sit perpendicular to the machine, so the handle is either to the left or the right. My wonky machine in work overflows every time i put the handle sticking straight out from the machine. I would contact the company to see what they say. Thanks for the input

I recently purchased Primula SAB-3001 Speak n Brew 10 Cup Coffee Maker on 2/15/10. I have got say that this is possibly the most dangerous coffee maker I have ever used. I have set it for auto three mornings in a row and each morning when I go to get coffee, the coffee is all over the counter and floor. The heating pad is covered with coffee and I would assume the wiring inside as well. I have stopped using it.

Hi Katherine,

from the sound of things you might need to run all the parts through the dishwasher, get a nice good hot rinse to clean the plastic. I might also try to clean the filter itself. ALso you coul try replaceing the metal filter with a paper one from the supermarket to see if that is the issue.

If you still have an odd taste i'd write to the company and inform them of the problem. Give them a chance to respond and fix this issues. Sorry you had a bad experience. Also a good way to clean any coffee maker is with a half vinegar half water solution run it through the system then run 2 changes of clean water through. Hope this helps

I just purchased the speak and brew. the brewed coffee does not taste right. It has a funky, plastic or tin taste. I washed the lid and basket before brewing and have run hot water through it several times. Do you know of anything that might be making the coffee taste funky?

Sounds like a really good coffee maker. I was checking it out when it was first released and thought it stood out from the rest. But you're right it does need a feature where you can say now or coffee me and instantly have it start brewing your coffee.
