I love carving Pumpkins, and this is the time of year I get to show off my favorite designs. Now Pumpkins don’t always end up what they were intended to be. I started this pumpkin as a Cyclops, but as i started to do the eye ym Son yelled MIKE WAZOWSKI! and I had to go that route. This one took about 4 hours, start to finish. The only thing I was upset about was that Mike doesn’t have a nose, and I had already cut it out. That and the horns fell apart while I was cutting them. Oh well I still think it turned out pretty good. The eye is my favorite part.

Check out the slideshow of the whole process. I used a steak knife, an exacto blade, and a spoon. Not too shabby

My wife is not a true geek, she is a wonderful woman but not a real geek. She is… geek-ish. She knows how to code, works with databases and tolerates my endless nerdy jokes. But in all reality she is quite a normal sane lady with no interest in star wars, tolkien or anything else. For someone as off the deep end as I am it helps to stay a little grounded.  When i proposed I did so while feverish, literally 104 Fahrenheit, and on bended knee in a place special to the two of us.

However when Gary wanted to ask Stephanie to marry him he went the extra geeky mile. Using their shared love of Portal, he worked with the modding community, Valve and the Voice of Glaados herself, Ellen McLain and worked out the wondrous video you see below.

Come to think of it. If i had really wanted to go geek with my proposal I could have designed a level in Mario Kart 64 and worked it that way… Hindsight is always 20/20. Best Wishes to Gary and Stephanie as they start their life together.

Learn about kinetics, the art of making things go. This traveling road show is looking for the funding to bring a larger than life scale model of the game Mousetrap to a town near you. While I think this is pretty incredible I’m not sure if the attraction of a single mousetrap will be enough cheese to lure people to come and see it. Perhaps a coupling with a life-size version of Monopoloy as well? About time people learned about fiscal responsibility. Still looks neat.

Head on over to Kickstarter to check out the full write up

As geeky and interesting as this idea is, The Intelligent Tabletop Grill, is all about taking the fun and skill out of grilling. I’m sorry but if you don’t loose some hair on your arms from a good grease fire then you just aren’t doing it right.

Settings? LCD? All these things have no place in a grill. Fire yes, meat, yes Veggies, ok. I’d like to do a side by side comparison to see if you can taste the love that goes into a perfectly `grilled burger vs one that machines deemed done.

I am an absolute sucker for T shirts. I love buying them. I love wearing them. They help me not be naked. Which I have found in polite society, is probably a good thing. I was contacted by the fine folks from Coy Clothes about their coffee related T shirts. Well this was a win no matter how you slice it.

Lisa sent me a wonderful T shirt, a very very comfortable T shirt. With a coffee related patch on it, as seen to the left. These are not simple silk screened T shirts but rather canvas sown onto the shirt to highlight the design. Spiffy! They have a ton of neat designs over there, and as you can see they do make a stylish statement.

So if you want to not be naked, and represent Coffee, or bacon head on over and check them out!

All this change and fresh air made me unveil the new CaffiNation Layout and design, so make sure you stop on by and tell me what you think. I’m working on a couple of small problems and a few final touches but I like the bold new look.

Although just a design concept these shelves are just awesome enough to get me thinking about how i should properly decorate the CaffiNation Lair. The idea looks simple enough to implement. I can’t help but think these shelves, depending on their price would be a huge hit in many a geek lair.

The Obvious end to this would of course being some truly smart geek finding a way to use conducive paint, or hidden wires, and make the shelving actually do something… The walls the limit here

Kids toys need to be two things to pass muster, durable and quiet. These blocks look mighty quite unless there is a hidden compartment for batteries I’m missing, and they also fulfill the hidden third category of an educational plus. The only real question i would have is about durability. can the water compartments take a three year old with a good arm?

I love the simplicity of the design and the classic shapes. they hit all of the right buzz words of the day. Made from sustainable rubberwood, in Thailand. Its not so much that Thailand is an advantageous place t do business but its not china, which has a whole ton of bad press about kids toys and disregard for product safety.

I’m almost tempted to buy them for school as they perfectly illustrate additive color theory. However at $39.99 I think they will be a wonderful example from afar. 6 blocks for 40 dollars breaks down to just over $6.67 per block, and that’s might pricey.

Caffeine Metabolism: A great article going over the pathway Caffeine takes to get into your system and how it effects you once it does. I was originally pulled in by the spiffy image but the  rest of the article is very worth your time if you are in any way interested in how caffeine changes you.

Caffeine begins to effect you in as little as ten minutes and by the time the next hour rolls around your body has already metabolized over 99% of the chemical. Think of it this way Caffeine is a plant toxin,  it just happens to have a very pleasant side effect of waking you up while your body attempts to get rid of it.

We’re back and having a blast!

Its been an up and down week, I know most people are ready for Friday so I’m bringing back a fan favorite. Form over Function Friday. These blog posts are dedicated to music I love, and doodles that happen while listening to it. Today’s post was partially inspired by twitter, in that every day I see people tweeting about coffee, and its not just me! Seriously just check out the update stream for coffee, its crazy. People need it, people want it. The silly ones are even giving it up! But more than that, if you are a coffee person you know there is a time of day when you need that second cup, for some it is sooner than others, mine is usually by 10 am at the latest. Today’s Show:  Server Migration, Apple, Health, Windows 7, Media,  Google, Transformers, The Military, Coffee, Noodles

Consider this a bit of a State of the Podcast episode, we brush over how things are going on the back end very quickly and remind everyone to enter into the 3 in 3 contest, deadline is this Wednesday the 21st! Its a bit of a morose weekend here in Philadelphia, football team under preforming coldest air in quite some time and a massive project all put the damper on a nice weekend.

However today’s show is a testament to the pervasiveness of the content i cover, its not just that I have to do a show twice a week but i was to spread it out any farther The sheer volume of content would swamp me! We have a bit on the inauguration and how it relates to coffee of all things. We cover some of the silly kitchen products that are leaking their way to market and we hit, briefly on the top 3 stories of the last week.

Today’s Show: Hospitals, Caffeine, Hallucinations, Color, Star Trek, Laundry, Halo, Astronauts, silk worms, DC, AC, Caffeinated, Coffee, Economy, fun

I slacked off in putting the show together in a timely manner now I’m paying for it. I had a good deal of the research done in drabs and drabs only to drop the ball. The entire city is once again electric with Playoff atmosphere and it just might do some collective good for our frail psyche.

Go Eagles!

BTW check out the Eagles FanCast for a true sports podcast, great guys

Today’s show takes its name from 302, being involuntarily committed, while i might be crazy I’m not quite there yet. And apparently caffeine of a certain level can induce hallucinations… who knew. Now if you’ll excuse me Abraham Lincoln and I have to migrate some servers.
