A wise lady once said “How about getting some sleep?” Actually two very wise ladies said this, My Mother said ti first and my wife has said it more often of late. Eventually not sleeping at all catches up to you, which is what happened last night. So Tonight i get to drop a fun episode onto your ears a day late. But I also get to give you a second helping over at the Techpodcast network as well, since I signed up to do this week’s TPN Weekly.

All of that aside I have a full week of content to write and only so much time to actually get it done.

There is a new contest from Jeffery Powers over at Podcast Madness, Enter the code blogsimple for a chance to win a year-long subscription to Mozy, a web backup solution. Listen to the show for a second chance to enter. Lots of shows are involved and each one of us has a different code so be sure to head over toPodcastmadness.com to see the rest of the Motley Crew.

If this attempt works you should see a sample of content composed inside of Google Wave. If not you might see blank space, or a horrid green box. This content is so new its not even beta, its preview, just after alpha. Not sure about what Google Wave is? I did a play by play rundown of the announcement, it might give you a better idea of the feature set going to be rolling out.

For the Layperson this means that Not Ready For Prime time is an understatement, there are missing features, possible crashes and a sparsely populated environment.  The funny thing about limited BETA, or trial programs is that EVERYONE simple HAS to get an invite. All the cool kids are doing it…

But this is one of the few times in recent memory where software or a service has been released where the front of the liners are not going to find much joy. People have come to expect a robust offering from software developers, and more often than not the developer used the limited beta hook to bring in the line jumpers and create buzz, this of course backfires when things don’t work swimmingly.

As a passable coder i hope to get to play around with the API and possibly to some other fun things. lets surf this wave and see what happens, I’m also going to need an infusion of bad wave related jokes to keep this going.

Many thanks to JC Lamkin and Technically Speaking Radio for the Wave Invite

Before you ask I don’t happen to have any invites at this point either :-D

Today’s show has a mix of fun and frowns. While there is a good deal to get excited about concerning our digital future there are also storm clouds on the horizon as they’re always are. The recent Amazon Orwellian kerfuffle has bloomed, some would say mushroom clouded into a larger narrative on the subject of ownership and privacy.

There were so many different takes on privacy and security this week that i decided to devote a huge chunk of the show to covering these stories.

The CaffiNation is also very proud to take part in the Summer of Podcasts Contest Head on over and check out the shows rocking the codeword this week. Week Four is Underway!

Enjoy the show and Stay Caffeinated!

Google Wave LogoGoogle has a great history of providing interesting and useful products to the web. They plan to continue that with Google Wave. According to Mashable the initial invites to the service will start rolling out by September 30th. I also love the logo.

The video introducing Google Wave is over an hour long so I’ll give you a quick breakdown. Wave plans to further conversations by bringing them into a shared space. Email is 40 years old! It was also built before the web, and SMS.How could conversations evolve in the bandwidth rich present?

This video was a very early demo for developers, in the hopes that the Devs will be able to help flesh Wave out.
