Shoulder Surgery Went well, but i’m not well enough to pitch a fit… get it?

Sponsored by Puzzle Piece Productions

This has been a long layoff, I lost a whole week there recovering from the shoulder surgery. Still not back to being 100 percent, I lot has gone into the news about 99, or the 1 and a whole bunch of other things on this show we only have one OWS joke, a couple of bad puns as per usual, and maybe a couple geeky references. I gots my arm in a sling, my heart on my sleeve and a chip on my shoulder, you know the good one. So I feel a good show was had by all.

Tonight we touch on the coffee, we hit up the Cartoons, we make fun of some activists and we have a couple of recipies to share. All in all its a good crop of stories. Please forgive the issues with today’s show one of the stories below had an add that didn’t play nicely with the caffination workstation and everything jammed up. I lost the chat room, and we thought until after the show was over that we had lost the audio as well. In fat we didn’t even record video on Ustream! Huge issues all around and we will hopefully have them fixed next timwe. But hey this is a crazy fun show with some good audience participation.

Since the beginning of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, which began in 1983, there hasn’t been any kind of complaints about any of the game content in the series. Personally, I wouldn’t think there would be. Well, I guess I was wrong. PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has decided to finally show there concern about a certain aspect of the game. They do not like the fact that Mario wears the Tanooki Suit.

23 years after the first appearance of the Tanooki Suit, PETA thinks it is wrong of Mario to wear fur. PETA stated, “Tanooki may be just a “suit” in Mario games, but by wearing the skin of an animal, Mario is sending the message that it’s OK to wear fur.” Even though Mario achieves the ability of the suit by grabbing a leaf, PETA feels that wearing it encourages animal abuse.

Tracy Reiman, PETA Executive Vice President, ”Tanukis are real-life raccoon dogs who are beaten and, as PETA’s undercover exposés show, often skinned alive for their fur. “This winter, everyone can give raccoon dogs and other fabulous animals a 1-UP by keeping our wardrobes fur-free.”To show much they really don’t appreciate the Tanooki suit, they have created a game called Super Tanooki Skin 2D, where you are a tanuki chasing after Mario to get your skin back. I have tried the game, and find that it is quite distasteful. So wearing the the Tanooki Suit is bad, but what about the frog suit?

First things first, Thank you for 5.5 years of podcasting, the comments and feedback, the few detractors and the tons of downloads. I have some fun stats to share on the show, The CaffiNation has been growing steadily and is only going to get better from here. And I have each one of you to thank, each person who downloaded the show even once, who participated in the contests, the fun, the hijinks, an the caffeine.

Tonight was the first show in years I have been nervous about doing. And that is a good thing. We might change a couple of things going forward, and keep a couple of other things. Video is here to stay, maybe not always in live episodes, but we will be back in video you can be assured. 500 episodes… and a gentle goodbye to long running server. Orion is decommed!

If you don’t know, I am quite the Legend of Zelda fan. So when I saw this video, one question came to mind. What the heck is a marimba. After a few google searches I found the answer. As for how it sounds, I think it is beautiful. Especially when it plays any Zelda music.

As a big fan of the Legend of Zelda franchise, I know that whenever Nintendo wants to celebrate one of the releases, something always turns into gold. The original Nintendo had the gold cartridge, Gameboy had the gold handheld GameBoy, N64 had the gold console with a gold controller. So it would only be right to celebrate 25 years by bringing out the gold.

As part of the 25th Anniversary of Legend of Zelda, Nintendo will be showing their celebration by releasing “Skyward Sword” with a special bundle pack. On November 20, along with the game, you could also get a gold Wii controller and a Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert music CD.

For $69.99, the 25th Anniversary bundle can be yours. If all you want is the game, it will be just $49.99. Personally, I might have to go the extra $20. You can also check out Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary website, and check out some the cool features.

Warp Pipes, not for the faint of heart, now if you have a fan’s mind and a kiings wallet a 34.99 mug might seem like a good idea to you. I love the design and the fact that you get one of 4 molded coasters is a great find, but 35 bucks a lot of coins to collect for one mug.

Now the real dilemma, awesome Mario Pipe mug vs Budgetary constraint, worse than any possible koopa.

It may not end well.

We have talked about the first run of the Chuck Taylor Mario 25th Anniversary shoes before. Despite the fact that the anniversary was 2010, Converse isn’t stopping the magic. Two new designs are going to be released, and unlike the last designs these actually look good to boot.

You can either choose to clad your feet in the iconic Level 1-1 of Super Mario brothers for a true retro chic, or go with a darker side and rock the Bowsers on your dogs. both shoes have fun patterns on the inside as well, Coins for the 1-1 and a thank you Mario on the Bowsers.

Of course if you want these, you will need to be in Japan, and you will need to be fast. Might be time to buy those magic MJ basketball shoes from Ebay.

Blocks are for writers, buildings, and parties

I have writers block, not the little kind were you can think of a special fun word for the correct shade of orange but the honest to goodness stare at a blank page and wonder where all the win went. I had so many ideas, and now i swear i hear an echo. but thank goodness for the kindness of friends and contributors. Steve and Tara filled in some great stories for this week when the words were not only not flowing but I think they migrated south. All that aside we have a metric ton of fun and interesting things to talk about today, and some more interesting stuff in the pipeline.

For 53 years, The Grammy Awards have shown the appreciation of everything in the music industry. They give awards to all different kinds of music, ranging from Rock and Pop, to Gospel and Polka. However, one category that has not been recognized is the music in video games.

With the Grammy’s reevaluating their award categories for 2012, they have finally decided to bring some appreciation to the video game music world. They decided to add the oppurtuity in 4 different categories: Best Song Written for Visual Media, Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, and The Music for Visual Media.

This sounds like a publicity stunt to try and get the younger generations interested in the Grammy’s. While it does seem like a cheap trick, I believe it would actually work. I just think it is about time to see the works of Koji Kondo and Martin O’Donnel get some appreciation.

Have you ever watched free-runners as they do some of the most amazing things. The tricks they perform and the heights they can reach are amazing. Personally, if I had a chance to try and do that, in a safe environment, I would go for it. Well, I might have to buy a plane ticket to get a chance.

In California, an establishment has been built to give you the ability to tryout free-running safely. Tempest Freerunning Academy has classes that let’s you learn how to free-run. Even though I was already intrigued to try it out, what really caught my attention was the fact that the facility is built to look similiar to Super Mario Bros. If I was looking for a reason to go, that would be the #1 reason. Unfortunately, this is the only one right now. Hopefully they will expand east so I can give it shot.

Events can rock the world, we control our response

We here at the CaffiNation send our deepest thoughts and well wishes to the people affected by the Japanese Tsunami and Quake. The first segment in our show is dedicated to providing correct and sensible information on what we know and where you can help. one of the biggest problems with the news cycle of Mainstream sources is that they frequently pull in content and skew it off course. We will try to give you only best information.

Beyond tragedy the world continues to go on. So we have a good does of fun and uplifting nonsense as per usual. Nonsense is needed at any time, keeps the reality in perspective. The world is full of people who will lament the sorrows that are around and ask why other’s aren’t doing more. So what you can. Don’t be that guy. We have a ton of good, fun and offbeat stories to talk about. from T shirt rounds to Grilling goodies, Lego of course makes its almost weekly appearance, as does a Mario interlude, and some awesome video game news. We have a couple angry birds, a few nesting dolls and some beverages to review.

We’re constantly looking for awesome and fun content so make sure to contact us if you find a story or would like to contribute!
