Not sure when this came out but I love the idea. Starbucks has debuted a larger mug with a special coating on it. This coating, when written on with the included pen and baked in an oven becomes permanently marked with your words of wisdom, inspirational doodle or hilarious missive.

And honestly $14.95 for a 16oz mug, a spiffy 16 oz mug. Is not that bad of a deal. I’d love to see people send in their final creations. I just know there will be some jaw dropping artwork on these things.

Take one part greek humor, and two part industrial design innovation and you get the unlikely marriage between a soup ladle and a coffee mug. brain child of DEDE DextrousDesign, this is a bit of whimsy i could get being.  I’m not one to quibble about the shape of your mug as a functional device. As long as it holds coffee I’m all for it. And this one seems to be specifically designer for Soup Slurpers. The site hosting the project CKIE (Seeky) is a crowd-sourced design project source. So if you like the slurp mug and you think the financials are sound head on over and give them a commitment.

Overall the movie Metropolis is greater than the sum of its parts. Quite literally. The movie was originally filmed in 1927, and it has existed in quite a few different incarnations, sometimes the movie shown is 30 minutes longer than the other versions. This is the origin of the directors cut.

If you want to geek out try and pick apart the problems this movie has gone through, framerate issues, 24 or 16 fps. which is better or more correct?

But the image above is an Ambiagram, a word construct which looks the same when held upside down and rightside up. Sometimes the words and meanings are different as see in this lovely Ambiagram mug.

Most people who have office jobs would love this mug

Either way the site where this was pulled from is a fantastic resource for different fun ambigram designs. if thats your thing you should check them out. I found myself loosing quite a few minutes in their archives.

So we have a shortened show tonight, brimming with great bits of fun, and a fussy little helper. Did the whole show with my daughter on my arm because she’s having a bit of a rough go of it right now. Hopefully the sultry sounds of my voice lull her to sleep without dulling the awesome content we have for you

I love snow and i love the cold so i’v been in a very tired heaven this year. This is also not the officially snowiest winter in Philadelphia history with over 60 inches of snowfall since December. Wow! Tonights bit of snowy awesomeness covers robots, design principles, retro game cakes and coffee best practices, and new wave building materials.

I know I’ve put a moratorium on new mugs in the house, but i might have to either break the moratorium or snap a couple of mugs. These new offerings from Thinkgeek are pretty dang awesome. Take the power of retro and the cool factor of the temperature sensitive paint and you get one spiffy mug. Space Invaders or Pacman flavors are available, for $7.99 each. I’m definitely a PacMan guy myself so this mug might end up in  Sop now i just need to find out which one of the current soldiers is getting retired.
