We’re all here because we’re not all there tonight!

I sponsored this one myself

Tonight’s show is a dress rehearsal for next week. There is some serious bidness that need to be taken care of and tonight we make the coffee vodka for next week! I unviel the new official caffination coffee vodka infusion method. We also have a ton of great content that quite simply needs to be discussed just because it is all awesome.

We lost a sponsor, but we still have room for more people who want to comment on show 500, send us audio or written commentary for the episode and I’ll play it on the next show. Tonight we hit all the high notes, retro fun, coffee, alcohol, what is there not to love?

Tonight and life took an unexpected turn, but as luck would have it we found a stand in for steve, this one doesn’t add much to the equation but it sure does make focusing the camera for two people a bit easier. The show is a hodgepodge of all of the different awesome things from the net this past week.

Retro games have a well worn niche in modern popular culture. Some companies like Nintendo even make most of their money off of old IP. How many times can we see Mario and the princess in their little dance with bowser ect? I want a game that breaks the mold. But when reliving old games I like them to look just the way they were. Only problem is that new TV’s make old games look horrible. Enter the SLG 3000, a community based project from ArcadeForge.

One of the reason low resolution TV never looked all that bad was the analogue TV’s all used CRTs with a barely noticeable flicker as the lines were scanned in on the cathode ray tube. this tricked your eye into thinking the picture was continuous were it really wasn’t. The SLG 3000 uses the VGA port on your HDTV to generate those scanlines on your spiffy new TV blurring ever so slightly the old games and bringing them back to their former glory. Neat Idea! a bit pricey to relive the old glory of fuzzy TV but its funny how we don’t miss simple things until they are gone.

Events can rock the world, we control our response

We here at the CaffiNation send our deepest thoughts and well wishes to the people affected by the Japanese Tsunami and Quake. The first segment in our show is dedicated to providing correct and sensible information on what we know and where you can help. one of the biggest problems with the news cycle of Mainstream sources is that they frequently pull in content and skew it off course. We will try to give you only best information.

Beyond tragedy the world continues to go on. So we have a good does of fun and uplifting nonsense as per usual. Nonsense is needed at any time, keeps the reality in perspective. The world is full of people who will lament the sorrows that are around and ask why other’s aren’t doing more. So what you can. Don’t be that guy. We have a ton of good, fun and offbeat stories to talk about. from T shirt rounds to Grilling goodies, Lego of course makes its almost weekly appearance, as does a Mario interlude, and some awesome video game news. We have a couple angry birds, a few nesting dolls and some beverages to review.

We’re constantly looking for awesome and fun content so make sure to contact us if you find a story or would like to contribute!

Finding Fun and Telling Tales

Tonight’s show is a fun mix of Content collect this past week. I actually like doing the show a bit more this way. I gotta say i felt a bit stagnant in how things were going it’s nice to bring in some fresh content and a new person to share with writing. Steve has been great. I hope you’re enjoying his articles. We cover ground from Pop culture interpretations of Video game Art (Angry Birdsky / a la warhol) to Modern looks at the early days of Exploration. history comes alive in color pictures from Shakelton’s 1915 assault on the south pole, Alas no scotch in that story.

We are also working on some fun new stories for the coming days, more reviews, more zombies, more sketching more Lord of the rings. Don’t just stay for the show, but bookmark us and ass us to your reader for later too!

We’re constantly looking for awesome and fun content so make sure to contact us if you find a story or would like to contribute!

Truckload of stories, boatload of fun

Been a long time coming, but episode 473 is here, well at least if you’re reading this then you are probably listening as well. The past two weeks have been big for the site, hopefully you’ve been checking back to the site to see some of the crazy stories and content we are throwing down. Tonight’s show is going to be a rundown a collection of the awesome, a highlight reel of the fun things we have covered over the past two weeks with the usual commentary, and a few extra’s thrown in.

Kitchen sink probably would have been a good name for this show because there has been so much new stuff showing up on the site I haven’t been able to keep track of everything. If you love the podcast do yourself a favor and click on the podcast only feed for use in itunes, zune or what ever podcatcher you use, and the Podcast only homepage is accessible from the garish colored button on the top right hand side of the homepage.

Going forward we’re going to try to keep up this torrid pace of finding and publishing content, and the podcast is going to rewind some of the fan favorites from the past week, we will still be covering off kilter topics and Steve will be publishing Video Game reviews and commentary as well. I’m hoping you are enjoying the direction that the site is heading. So this show is running at about 90% of the links being back to our own stories, which is awesome.

Steve brought a great energy to the show and I can’t wait to have him back. Let me know what you thought of tonight’s episode!

On the actual episode we have a caffeinated quirky legal defense, some awesome cake presentations, a video game review, a little note to the techs of the world to slow down every once in a while. What if R2D2 was made entirely of game consoles? What if you had a graphic to describe just how awesome Nachos can be! How do you get a coffee blogger to visit your cafe? All of the questions will be talked about. I’m not a religion and I can’t promise answers or truth I just give insight and opinion. This is my world you’re all just drinking my coffee.

So I’m 30 now, new decade, same mission. I’ve sworn to bring the fun, and often overlooked bits of web detritus and caffeinated goodness to your ears, twice weekly. While not yet at the age of adulthood for a hobbit i find myself once more just the right age for a man. This week’s show has a mix of both old and new, retro goodies nestles in between bits of current news and interesting stories. Bonus points for the first person to tell me what the hobbit age of adulthood is. :-D

I know I’ve put a moratorium on new mugs in the house, but i might have to either break the moratorium or snap a couple of mugs. These new offerings from Thinkgeek are pretty dang awesome. Take the power of retro and the cool factor of the temperature sensitive paint and you get one spiffy mug. Space Invaders or Pacman flavors are available, for $7.99 each. I’m definitely a PacMan guy myself so this mug might end up in  Sop now i just need to find out which one of the current soldiers is getting retired.

Tonights show was a fun process, I’m always working on the details of creating a CaffiNation Episode, so from time to time the hiccups in production create a happy accident. This was one of those times, i messed up the machine i use for recording only to find it better set up the new way. Hopefully the quality comes through in the end.
