Little Sariah Gallego and her family were chosen to participate in The Jedi Academy Stage show in Disneyland. Given the choice between the Dark side, which may or may not have cookies, and the light side of the force, Little Sariah chose wisely and broke ranks to join Darth Vader! She even goes so far as to kneal! The crowd laughs as the actors don’t know what to do. how much do you want to bet they have a plan in place for the next apprentice?

See… it is scenes like this that make raising geekish children that much cooler! Awesome stuff Sariah I sense the force is strong in you!

Playing it fast and loose with technology and coffee news

Every once in a while I get a bit down in the dumps about the site, or about the feedback. It didn’t last long this time. I had a friend start asking me about his website and how to get it up and running a half hour later when i realized I’d been talking that long I sort of figured out I know a heck fo a lot more than i give myself credit for. And most of it has been because the fine readers and listeners at The CaffiNation have allowed me to play around with minor details of the show and the site without too many fires and riots. It’s been a great ride.

Back on point and a bit disjointed. There are plenty of off the wall crazy stories to tell for this week, so the challenge is going to be keeping the spice flowing. Gotta hit each target and move on. Content from everybody mixing to create one lovely brew delivered direct to you.

Jennifer Roberts the owner of Sweet Element boutique cake shop in East Orange, NJ recently delivered what has to be one of the sweetest and most awesome Star Wars Cakes I have ever seen. A Dual Dueling Grooms Cake, Light side and Dark Side. Obi Wan vs Darth Vader… In CAKE. I’ve seen more than a few star wars cakes, although geeks being geeks most of the were birthday cakes, and not so much on the lifemate celebration variety.

Share photos on twitter with TwitpicShare photos on twitter with Twitpic These two cakes, which I can only hope are vanilla and chocolate are unbelievable and they light up! Did the groom cut it with a lightsaber? What did the regular cake look like? Either way this is fantastic!

Now take a step back and realize that Sweet Element is a one woman shop. All that awesome you see? It was All her! Bow down to the Cake master, the force is strong with this one! I already told my wife she was lucky that I didn’t know about these types of cakes before our wedding. hats off Jen, this is some fantastic work!

You can check out more of the production stills from Jen’s Twitpic stream. Soo cool! Or read a bit more about the process on Jen’s Blog

Finding Fun and Telling Tales

Tonight’s show is a fun mix of Content collect this past week. I actually like doing the show a bit more this way. I gotta say i felt a bit stagnant in how things were going it’s nice to bring in some fresh content and a new person to share with writing. Steve has been great. I hope you’re enjoying his articles. We cover ground from Pop culture interpretations of Video game Art (Angry Birdsky / a la warhol) to Modern looks at the early days of Exploration. history comes alive in color pictures from Shakelton’s 1915 assault on the south pole, Alas no scotch in that story.

We are also working on some fun new stories for the coming days, more reviews, more zombies, more sketching more Lord of the rings. Don’t just stay for the show, but bookmark us and ass us to your reader for later too!

We’re constantly looking for awesome and fun content so make sure to contact us if you find a story or would like to contribute!

Truckload of stories, boatload of fun

Been a long time coming, but episode 473 is here, well at least if you’re reading this then you are probably listening as well. The past two weeks have been big for the site, hopefully you’ve been checking back to the site to see some of the crazy stories and content we are throwing down. Tonight’s show is going to be a rundown a collection of the awesome, a highlight reel of the fun things we have covered over the past two weeks with the usual commentary, and a few extra’s thrown in.

Kitchen sink probably would have been a good name for this show because there has been so much new stuff showing up on the site I haven’t been able to keep track of everything. If you love the podcast do yourself a favor and click on the podcast only feed for use in itunes, zune or what ever podcatcher you use, and the Podcast only homepage is accessible from the garish colored button on the top right hand side of the homepage.

Going forward we’re going to try to keep up this torrid pace of finding and publishing content, and the podcast is going to rewind some of the fan favorites from the past week, we will still be covering off kilter topics and Steve will be publishing Video Game reviews and commentary as well. I’m hoping you are enjoying the direction that the site is heading. So this show is running at about 90% of the links being back to our own stories, which is awesome.

Steve brought a great energy to the show and I can’t wait to have him back. Let me know what you thought of tonight’s episode!

As I’ve spoken about this before the biggest challenge facing most geek dads is ensuring that they raise socially concious geeklings. Kids that know the difference between Marvel and DC, kids that can pick out a joke about how its Hoth in here when its freezing. Miguel Valenzuela has made that leap and more.

Seeing a dad go to great lengths to craft an AT AT snow sculpture is one thing. Having his offspring ride said AT AT brings it up to another level. and Finally winning at fatherhood is accomplished by posting all of this on the internet, while adding in lightsaber effects, and complete with how to and helpful hints.

There is some awesome work being done here. Please head on over and check out the full story, and Miguel… job well done!

So tonight we hit a lot of notes from this past week. Wikileaks was huge news and I give my opinion and note a couple of places you can find more information. And trust me information is good. The reasons people hide it are the interesting bits. And since we have been hitting the hard topics a bit often of late there is plenty to lighten the mood after that from hilarious video to creepy science. Hopefully you will enjoy the show I have cooked up for you.

All that aside there are some absolute gems from this week in news. And an awesome little surprise for the next show. I love a good bit of retro fun. In fact so much of the art, tech and even cars ark harkening back to simpler times retro is the new now. Marshall Mcluhan would be proud, a little referred pain never hurt one

Today’s show has a ton of great tech in the lineup, a bevy of awesome food and coffee related articles at its beckon call but more than anything is has the warm assistance of my new baby girl helping out in the wee hours. It seems she’s a night owl like her father.

Tonight’s show we talk about Star Wars, again! propaganda again! and steampunk AGAIN! The topics are staying the same but the content just keeps flowing. The good thing is that the content, like a grape left on the vine through a frost, is only getting sweeter. We have plenty of cruft from all different angles pouring in so sit back, grab a mug and enjoy the ride!
