I’m always looking for something to spice up the show, like a fine curry one show is never quite like the next. But after 6 years its hard to see the differences some times. I’d love for people to email in and share what they like and don’t about the show. Where should we be spending our time? What do you want to hear more about? Less About? it’s your show we just host it.
CES is happening, and I’m not there. So pay attention to people who are. Like Norbert! He and the fine folks with TPN, have all the goodies.
Tonight’s show is full of puns, a ton of in jokes and a great vibe throughout. We hit on everything from Mario to Makerbots, we touch on Star wars, Coffee, and of course lots of off beat news and happenings
A nice week of recovery, some good news from the doctor and a lot of things getting done. A bit of geekery and a lot of bad humor and you have tonight’s episode. We hit everything from Google TV to vertical chess. Talk about some epic thanksgiving feasts to be had and discuss the wonders of lollipops and true fair trade coffee.
This has been a long layoff, I lost a whole week there recovering from the shoulder surgery. Still not back to being 100 percent, I lot has gone into the news about 99, or the 1 and a whole bunch of other things on this show we only have one OWS joke, a couple of bad puns as per usual, and maybe a couple geeky references. I gots my arm in a sling, my heart on my sleeve and a chip on my shoulder, you know the good one. So I feel a good show was had by all.
Tonight we touch on the coffee, we hit up the Cartoons, we make fun of some activists and we have a couple of recipies to share. All in all its a good crop of stories. Please forgive the issues with today’s show one of the stories below had an add that didn’t play nicely with the caffination workstation and everything jammed up. I lost the chat room, and we thought until after the show was over that we had lost the audio as well. In fat we didn’t even record video on Ustream! Huge issues all around and we will hopefully have them fixed next timwe. But hey this is a crazy fun show with some good audience participation.
We have an odd episode tonight. My brain wasn’t fully plugged in, not for lack of coffee mind you but I guess there is a short somewhere. If you watch the video you can actually see sparks I swear. there is also a bonus story, bumbled horribly in the video edition. I cut it out of the Standard CaffiNation offering to save your ears.
The week is a tuneup for Podcamp Philly lots of stuff going on and a few wires are coming loose. We hit up a bunch of fun stories about coffee, tea and snacks. We also look towards the new offerings from Amazon and Apple.
Geek Cruft:
Geeky This Week
Podcamp Philly! This Weekend, Stay tuned for on location stuff!
The Kicker Tea Tumbler is an interesting idea for tea consumers. The premise is simple enough. Drop in loose tea, Of which i am a huge fan, and then top it with boiling or near boiling water. cap it off and enjoy.
The strainer at the top of the clear tumbler allows you to sip with reckless abandon. And While I like the idea in theory I have a couple of design suggestions for the fine folks at Kicker Studio. Not Glass, in fact anything but glass. while pretty this thing will shatter when it’s lovely shape is dropped. this is a travel mug, you could go with glass lined clear plexiglass and be ok.
The technology in the thing is pretty cool, hourglass style flip on one end to infuse the tea, flip on the other side to drink with a lovely timer located in the end cap. I’m not convinced that the tea basket will provide adequete infusion however. Tea balls are immersed in the water and the IngenuiTEA, from Adagio has a mesh screen for a housing. The design seems to lack the flow to make good tea.
I do laud them for coming up with a wonderful system as a whole. And overall I love the design and I really do hope to see this in the Tea World some day.
Tea is a wonderful beverage, and here at the CaffiNation we support Tea in all of its wonderful forms. However the penultimate tea experience is loose tea. if you enjoy tea, and have never had a cup of tea brewed with loose leaves you are doing yourself a disservice.
There are a great many different ways you can prepare the tea but infusers are pretty simple gadgets. This particular concept submitted to Yanko Design by Dr. Hakan Gürsu. The T-Easy seems to be just that, an easy to clean portable tea infuser with a graduated container for the leaves. As the article does mention these graduations only really matter for particular types of tea since the floral varieties (not really a tea then is it… Its an Herbal infusion)
The thing that impresses me the most about this gadget is the extra thought that seemed to go into the constructions. You can tell the designer enjoys a good cup of tea every once in a while. So What say you? do you have a favorite infuser / tea gadget that you use?
You can buy this wonderful piece of tea innovation, for only 20 dollars. Its a diving bell style deep sea diver, that you can fill with tea, as an infuser. I can’t get over how cool and fun this looks. One word of warning though, you are going to need a clear cup, such as shown above to truly enjoy it!
Take one part greek humor, and two part industrial design innovation and you get the unlikely marriage between a soup ladle and a coffee mug. brain child of DEDE DextrousDesign, this is a bit of whimsy i could get being. I’m not one to quibble about the shape of your mug as a functional device. As long as it holds coffee I’m all for it. And this one seems to be specifically designer for Soup Slurpers. The site hosting the project CKIE (Seeky) is a crowd-sourced design project source. So if you like the slurp mug and you think the financials are sound head on over and give them a commitment.
Mugs are fun places for self expression over your espresso. If you said that last sentence with an x where it shouldn’t belong please leave the building come back when you have learned. Over at perpetual kid they have an awesome little vehicle for self expression in this ransom note style mug. And despite the fact that i have quite enough mugs for everyone I still think this is a fun concept.
We touch on the TSA scanner kerfuffle, the naughty bits that need hiding and the wonderful bits the world needs to see. Bits such as a superhero grandmother, a boat made of bacon, a gun for jenga, and a model hobbit home. All awesome little bits of fluff to keep you entertained over the long weekend
Today’s show has it all. Zombies, legos, dancing and holograms. From the geek chic to the scantily clad cup of coffee we find all the fun and exotic tech and caffeine laden news items and simmer them down into a coalesced audio bit of wonder.
A bevy of off the wall news, and interesting topics to ponder. We managed to find a good crop of Coffee and caffeine related goodies to share today. From modern takes on classic art, to Lego minfig stickers we have a ton of fun content to share won’t you join us?
I sifted through the tattered remains of my week to find bits of awesome content. Hopefully you enjoy steampunk, science fiction movies, coffee, t shirts and geekery as much as I do. But then again you ARE listening to the only place that has all of the above with any type of regularity! Enjoy the show.
