It has been quite a week, and quite a day around these parts. Lots of things getting done, but not a lot of news on one of our favorite topics. Coffee is like that some days there is a ton of stuff to talk about, others…. not so much. We have a bunch of Halloween themed stories to bring back from the dead, and some fun gadgets and news to discuss join us!
The tone of tonights show was different right up until the time we had to record it. Am I going to spend the whole episode rehashing and talking about it? No, but things deserve their due. And a man as great as Steve Jobs deserves no less than our admiration, respect and condolences to his family. He created a great many beautiful things, some will stand the test of time and others will not. his spirit will live on in the company he helped found and the choices he made. Let us all hope there is another crazy cocky genius in their garage tonight planning to take over the world one shiny gadget at a time.
I love me some Sour Patch Kids. And according to the video a new game called World Gone Sour This video has some seriously quotable lines, and a lovely Star wars reference.
When Netflix raised their prices, people were outraged. Many dropped the service, feeling it was too expensive to keep receiving DVDs in the mail. So, to try and get rid of the confusion, get back some old customers, and grab some new ones, Netflix is making some drastic changes.
One of the changes they did to infuriate customers, was splitting up the streaming movie service and DVD-by-mail service. So what they are going to do, is completley change the name of DVD-by-mail service, which will be called “Qwikster.” Netflix will still keep the name, however, it will only be for the streaming videos. Their will also be a change in your credit card statement, but the prices will stay the same.
For me, the best part is what they are adding to the service. Not too long ago, I wrote an article, Gamefly vs. Redbox, that talked about how Redbox started video game rentals. What will be known as Qwikster, will not only be using the DVD-by-mail service, but they will be giving into the video game rentals. Many customers having been wanting this service for years. At this time, there is no information as to when this will start and the price of the service. It is great to hear that they are going ahead and trying this out. Now that Netflix will be doing game rentals, it will be another company to add to the list of companies who give the same service. Since Netflix is a popular name, they might have a better chance of succeeding.
This comes to light after Reed Hastings, Co-Founder and CEO of Netflix, released a statement on the Netflix Blog , explaining the changes that have happened and that are coming. Many comments about this blog are showing disagreement on all the changes. Some explain the problems it will cause. Only time will tell how well this new system will work
There is not one person who can say they have not played the game of Twister. It is a game that brings families and friends together…literally. You would never think that the game could be played on an Xbox360. Well, Twister is about to get a major makeover.
Majesco, who has had big hits such as Zumba Fitness and Cooking Mama, is bringing Twister to Xbox 360′s Kinect. However, it will be nothing like the actual game. There will be not mat and no spinner. So the question that comes to mind is, how do you play the game of Twister without the 2 most important pieces? ”This is using your full body as a game piece” said Christina Glorioso, Majesco’s chief marketing officer.
Twister Mania, the official name of the game for Kinect, will have 3 different modes, and 16 different ways to play the game. You can have up to 8 players at a time. The new version of the game brings so much more than just spin and contort. Twister Mania will be releasing sometime in November 1, 2011. Although Kinect games are becoming more and more popular, we will have to see how much success this will be. For $49.99, you will be able to enjoy the fun game of Twister Mania.
A video game that consists of a high school cheerleader, who kills zombies with a bedazzled chainsaw, is something…different.
Grasshopper Manufacture Inc, who are known for mostly doing Japanese games, has teamed up with American writer and filmmaker James Gunn. They are developing a game, where a California high school cheerleader, Juliet Starling, has to fight off hoardes of zombies, led by “Zombie rock and roll lords.
Sounds pretty similiar to another high school cheerleader from late 1990′s, but instead of zombies, there were vampires. I think her name was Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. With all the pizzazz and candy, this will certainly be an interesting game to play.
With the release date sometime in 2012, Lollipop Chainsaw is still in development.
With the success of Mortal Kombat, how could they make the game more interesting. By putting in one of the most infamous horror villains known, Freddy Krueger.
The boogeyman himself comes to the Netherrealm to face off with the likes of Scorpion and Shao Khan. For $5, or 400 Microsoft Points, Freddy can be yours to control. Unfortunatley, you can not wake up to get away from Freddy. The only flaw I see in the design is his bladed gloves. In the movies, he only has one, but in the game he has two. When you watch the preview, it is almost like he could be Wolverine, dressed up like Krueger.
Why does he continue to license his products to other companies in an enticing manner. For every goofy Star Wars Toaster which burns an image of Darth Vader into a piece of bread we have a wonderful compilation like this! The Star Wars Xbox 360. 320 gig hard drive, R2D2 style paint job and a cool white kinect sensor? Oh yeah it totally has a Gold C3P0 controller. THE LED is BLUE! that right there is enough for me to throw money away. I like blue.
My one question about these bundles. For 450 dollars why don’t we ever get a second controller? I mean come on! If you have the money and the time George would love for you to give him some of the former.
A week ago, Sony shut down the PlayStation Network, stating that it was for maintenance, and that it would only last no more than two days. Finally the truth came out…PSN was hacked, and personal information was compromised. Although, Sony is still unsure whether or not the credit card information of all the users was jeopardized.
In a recent post on Playstaion’s blog site, Patrick Seybold, who is Sr. Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media, released a statement reassuring users that the company is working around the clock to resolve the issues. He goes on to elaborate on the situation, what they are doing to fix the security problems, and also informs you on what to do to prevent further damage to your information.
Sony suspected that Anonymous, a group well-known for their hacking ability, was at fault. However, a statement was released by the group saying, ”While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves, AnonOps was not related to this incident and does not take responsibility for whatever has happened.”
With PlayStation Network being shut down, Microsoft could get a boost in sales. Despite the fact that PSN has been running for over 4 years, Xbox Live has been running for almost 9 years, never having any type of security breach. And although you can never anticipate the situation that Sony is in right now, it sure is making Microsoft look really good.
Gearboard takes a very common problem with modern gaming machines and hopes, at least the concept will take off. Everyone who dabbles in game systems has started to see the creep, game by game, peripheral by peripheral much more of our storage is being devoted to game specific pieces of hardware. Gearboard is an attempt to take these and put them on the wall out of the way. The only peripherals i don’t see fitting into this systems are the Dance Dance Revolution mats currently living under the couch in the CaffiNation Lair. What say you to peripheral creep and how you deal with it?
All this change and fresh air made me unveil the new CaffiNation Layout and design, so make sure you stop on by and tell me what you think. I’m working on a couple of small problems and a few final touches but I like the bold new look.
So while this episode is released I’ll hopefully be relaxing on some sandy beach drink in hand enjoying my son terrorizing the local seagull population. You however have the distinct pleasure of enjoying a fresh cup of CaffiNation, pre recorded and lovingly steeped for your enjoyment.
This time on TPNW I’ll be doing a short informative session on Podcasting Setups and Coffee Basics. Nice short and to the point.
The CaffiNation is also very proud to take part in the Summer of Podcasts Contest Make sure you check in on August 10th to see the winners!

Today’s extended show we discuss the best in tech news and caffeinated tid bits explained for everyone. No heavy handed tech just plain old fashion silly news and fun links today. I got some funny reactions to the last show so Apparently i’m either a “riot” or there was going to be one if I really switched over to an all Spanish show
