Tonight’s show was just as off the wall as it usually ends up being, with everything from Shots to Hermit Crabs, from 3d Printing to Zombies, Mini cakes to Comic books and anything in between.
You would think with as much build up the holiday season has I would have been ready for it? Well i wasn’t in fact the last week leading up to the Holiday was a blur. Buildings moved at work, sling came off, arm is no longer so special. And a lot of work needed to be done. Quite frankly i was done at the end of the normal work day and didn’t write or think after i got home.
For tonight we have a bevy of Geeky things to share, a few fun wrap ups from the past year, stuff like favorite stories, most popular posts, evil chat room antics… All of it. We have a live show once more set to go off without too many hitches. Time will only tell if all the bugs have been ironed out. We are covering everything from Steve Jobs as a doll, to Meteor showers, Coffee and coffee related stuff a plenty and a fun new graphic I have hanging in my window at work. There are a bunch of fun things to talk about so make sure you join us each week, for the Live Taping!
Did you know that the CaffiNation will be celebrating our 6 year anniversary of podcasting? 6 years as of January 9th 2011. Lots of great times and new friends over that time. People like to make resolutions right around this time every year, and I for years have scoffed at this practice, and that really didn’t help things so this year I’m trying for 1600 x 1200 as a resolution…
CES by TPN, and TCT! Consumer electronics show is right around the corner, we are goignt o be carrying the live stream for the Techpodcast network, as well as pointing you to some awesome content from Norbert at TCT!
A lot of news got snowed under by the mountain of savings that happened this past week. We shuffle through the marketing fluff to find you the best in bad jokes and the worst in horrible puns. We find some fun additions to our favorite software bundles, we discuss the burning of books, the navigational tactics of the vikings and the food addictions of mustache aficionados world wide.
Did you hear the one about the 2 guys who walked into a bar? Third one ducked! You need to listen to this show, the jokes are bad the news is fun and the vocabulary is off the chart!
We Also decide to dive headfirst into the wonderful season that is almost upon us. Since this is our last show before Halloween we have a bevy of spooky and funny stories to share, some last minute costume ideas and of course lots of pumpkins. Tonight we also flip things around a bit on Coffee Up!
First things first, Thank you for 5.5 years of podcasting, the comments and feedback, the few detractors and the tons of downloads. I have some fun stats to share on the show, The CaffiNation has been growing steadily and is only going to get better from here. And I have each one of you to thank, each person who downloaded the show even once, who participated in the contests, the fun, the hijinks, an the caffeine.
Tonight was the first show in years I have been nervous about doing. And that is a good thing. We might change a couple of things going forward, and keep a couple of other things. Video is here to stay, maybe not always in live episodes, but we will be back in video you can be assured. 500 episodes… and a gentle goodbye to long running server. Orion is decommed!
We’re all here because we’re not all there tonight!

This week we have a full crew and half a deck of cards. So… after much trial and error it turns out the problem with the computer was not entirely the sound card but rather some sound card, some windows 7 junk and some cable problems. I’ve heard you have cable problems and I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but a hiss ain’t one. Turns out I was making things to complicated for my own good, Quite a common mistake I make. Overlooking the simple in favor of elaborate fixes. But We’re back with a brand new look and lease on life.
We hit the video game and tech news Hard this week. When it comes right down to it. People love themselves some coffee but in all honesty the Summertime is a bad time for coffee news. Its hot out, and one can only discuss the Iced Coffee Paradox only so many times. We have news from all over and an attitude straight outta Philly. Check out this weeks Hijinks.

Geeky This Week
Podcamp Philly! It’s coming and its going to be fantastic
A video game that consists of a high school cheerleader, who kills zombies with a bedazzled chainsaw, is something…different.
Grasshopper Manufacture Inc, who are known for mostly doing Japanese games, has teamed up with American writer and filmmaker James Gunn. They are developing a game, where a California high school cheerleader, Juliet Starling, has to fight off hoardes of zombies, led by “Zombie rock and roll lords.
Sounds pretty similiar to another high school cheerleader from late 1990′s, but instead of zombies, there were vampires. I think her name was Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. With all the pizzazz and candy, this will certainly be an interesting game to play.
With the release date sometime in 2012, Lollipop Chainsaw is still in development.
An over abundance of Star Wars related Content, Tasty and Geeky side of the force hard moving from Cookies to Cases, Toys to Toast the fun just doesn’t stop. We have Zombie Safe Houses, Real Life Zombie brain cells, and of course the origen of the zombies. the SMURFS!
It sounds like a lovely Zombie movie doesn’t it? Brains turning off on their own, without your knowledge. but it’s true, at least according to science. New research into the field of neuroscience, as reported by Wired, the longer someone stays awake without sleeping your brain falls into a pattern of letting some synapses sleep while the others continue to function. This is the reason when pulling an all-nighter in school you are not nearly as sharp as you were at the start of your day. It also explains why people are much more functional after a short nap, basically it resets the snooze alarm on your brain cells.
While the study, or the explanation didn’t go into this type of detail, imagine if this process happened after being awake for only say… 6 hours, so an afternoon nap would refresh you like no one’s business. I’d love to see a bit more research into how naps affect this process.
Come with me now as we journey into my brain. Since we are a coffee and caffeine site I wonder what affects various stimulants have on this process. I have to tell you I think my brain shuts down half of its faculties regardless. I don’t know about you but there are definitely days when I swear I’m not working on all cylinders and now there just might be science behind it! Imagine if the scientists could isolate why this happens, they might unlock the secrets of why some people need less sleep than others, or even tackle a sleeping disorder or two.
So there are plenty of things to talk about today, information security, LED’s, Zombies, Espresso, hacking and iPhones, because what would round out a fun old fashioned mish mash of an episode like a complete 360 of internet and caffeine culture?
Its been a rough up and down type of week after a wonderful weekend. Thank you to everyone for your birthday wishes, and support. This past weekend I got to meet a twitter friend and discuss the organic nature of the service. I got to have plenty of Coffee and Creme Stout from a local brewery, and i got to spend plenty of time with friends and family. Being that the weekend was as Tech Free as it was, diving back into tech, writing, and podcasting this week has been quite fruitful indeed.
Tonight we’re going to dive back into the fun post apocalyptic world of Zombie killing, Enjoy some good coffee and discuss the finer points of tech communication and responses. So it should be a great episode, hopefully you’ll enjoy what we’re serving today.
Tonight’s episode was almost labeled The Wasteful because of the huge number of leftovers after this show was created. I simply could not cram any more awesome into the time slotted. While the podcast could theoretically go on forever we had to draw the line somewhere, and that line was here.
Instead I decided to break it down into the two most represented categories R and R is Retro and Robots, a metric ton of awesome in each subcat. Caffeinated all the way in today’s show we speak of coffee as fuel for your car, fuel for your mind, and robots which tend gardens. We discuss the finery of Pacman, the majesty of Zork and the horror of modern advertising which is so cool you can’t avert your eyes.
This Episode also could have been called the Birthday Super Throwdown Edition.
Happy birthday to My father in Law, My Father and My Sister!
So Please Enjoy the show and Stay Caffeinated!

A day after people either love being around or can’t wait till its over we find topics that bring everyone together. Walking through a who’s who and major brand name dropping we peek into the stories floating around online to see whats really behind the announcements and how they’re trying to separate you from your hard earned cash.
We’re also opening the show up to suggestions for notable charities and causes that fit into the geek culture or coffee Cruft sections. Help us spread your words. I’m also very excited to explain a new series of articles coming out in the next couple of weeks called Tech in Tough Times, we’re going to be focusing on helping you get the most out of your machine and your software. Hello all and welcome to episode 300 of the venerable CaffiNation Podcast. Tonight i decided to mix some things up to give you a taste of history a bit of geeky news and then a look back at some of the highlights you may have not seen. We also announce the contest for the 3 in 3 event. 300 episodes in 3 years… January 9th 2006, i uttered those now, still not really all that famous words. “Hi and welcome to the CaffiNation podcast” Three years and three hundred episodes later we’re still going strong things have changed a bit, hosts have moved and the archives grow fat with their bounty of entertainment.
