Wave of the future or messy addiction? This gizmo uses a shortwave radio reciever to create what they dub very slow scan TV. The machines is a Canvas of ink filled bubble wrap. It is able to create 1 frame of Video per day. At 24 frames per second you can make a 30 second commercial in 720 days, or 1.97 years… AT very low def i might add. with shifty color…

Ok at some point its not tech and its just fun because we can. The scanner travels back and forth across the canvas which is a giant roll of bubble wrap injecting dye inot each bubble. The problem is that TV is don in RGB, percentages of Red Green and Blue, as the three primary colors of light. Pigment doesn’t work that way so they need to use Cyan Magenta and Yellow dye to create similar colors. CYM. Which is the same set of basic inks most printers use. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes

By now most people have heard of the situation in Lower Merion PA where a student was given a laptop and information from that laptop was used to discipline the kid for something he did at home. There are a lot of vague areas about this story so I’m going to try to stick to what we know for certain, anything else only furthers the hysteria which is bound to follow.

We know that the laptops given to the students had software installed on them which was able to access the webcam and monitor the system in case of theft to allow them to be recovered. We know that a student was disciplined for an action either view through the camera or from an image taken with the laptop camera. This image was obtained through the use of this software by a school official or teacher.  Other students have reported seeing the camera led activity indicator turn on for no reason, although this is just heresay at this point Read the rest of this entry »

Kids toys need to be two things to pass muster, durable and quiet. These blocks look mighty quite unless there is a hidden compartment for batteries I’m missing, and they also fulfill the hidden third category of an educational plus. The only real question i would have is about durability. can the water compartments take a three year old with a good arm?

I love the simplicity of the design and the classic shapes. they hit all of the right buzz words of the day. Made from sustainable rubberwood, in Thailand. Its not so much that Thailand is an advantageous place t do business but its not china, which has a whole ton of bad press about kids toys and disregard for product safety.

I’m almost tempted to buy them for school as they perfectly illustrate additive color theory. However at $39.99 I think they will be a wonderful example from afar. 6 blocks for 40 dollars breaks down to just over $6.67 per block, and that’s might pricey.

Today’s Show:  Fractures, Bookmarks, Legos, Robots, Tech, Lunch, Windows 7

Considering how clumsy I used to be I guess its a miracle that i have gone this long without any serious incidents. I hurt myself in work today doing something very inane, but when you have a condition like mine, normal is a relative term. So please excuse the lack of my normal prose filled intro and beautifully constructed reviews. With one hand in a cast bent at an odd angle typing this was a feat in and of itself.

The area covered by those labeled as the Tech, Computer Guy, or Gal are vast. Some of us play with lights on a stage, others fiddle with audio behind a curtain. Still others of us fix machines. But more often than not its easier to say I’m the Computer guy to friends and family when they ask what you do. Below you will find the rolls I have seen Techs filling, feel free to add whatever you want at the bottom via comment, it might spark something.

These are all meant to be funny,m and shouldn’t be taken to heart, either by the people who are these techs, or those who call on them for help.

Scroll through the Tech Types see which one fits!

Today’s Show:Cryptography, Leftovers, Recycling, Soda, Coffee, Caffeine, Robots, Ads, Kindle

Today’s show is a bit off kilter from what we usually do. I switched machines for recording and the CaffiNation Lair is quite silent right now. The correct way to record is to isolate any extra noise, so this is the closest i’ve had yet to perfect conditions. Great content from front to back a bit of serious in the middle. We are recovering from a long weekend of family fun and work.

Enjoy the Episode!

Today’s Show is brought to you by the letter S for Stress. Things are coming in hot and heavy in the CaffiNation Lair, as we prep for Podcamp, The Start of the Semester and a host of other tasks. This episode brings a lot of news and information tempered with a bit of reaction to some of the current events in technology. Discussing everything from the Gremlins to software licensing this show should fill your need to know nicely.
