This was one busy holiday weekend here at the lair, and beyond. The birth of a nation was celebrated by everyone in the USA, and there were cookouts and fireworks all around. We spent the day away from the lair and the weekend slowly caught up to me on Sunday evening I was unable to rock out a good show. Fell asleep even trying. So luckily I took today off to be with my son and am attempting to record a show while he’s napping. Still caffeinated, just trying to be quite.
Of course the best laid plans never seem to work out so the boy woke up, the neighborhood erupted in noise and the dog and the cats staged world war three under my feet, so the result is a heavy edited show, and a promise to once again move back into the night where i belong. Let that not dampen the enjoyment of the news and fun bits.
The CaffiNation is also very proud to take part in the Summer of Podcasts Contest Head on over and check out the shows rocking the codeword this week.

You Goonie! (And am I the only one that comments on all of your movie references?)
Also, that bait is actually called ‘chum’. I didn’t realize it was only to draw sharks. Learn something new everyday.

On the radioactive playset:
U-238 is a naturally occurring uranium isotope that is commonly used as the base for refining nuclear fuels. While it is certainly radioactive, it is not the nasty stuff that the Russian mafia uses for executions.
That nasty bugger is polonium 210 (Po-210). It’s a pretty heavy alpha particle emitter, which means it’s relatively safe to handle externally (alpha particles can be stopped by our skin’s epidermal layer, or a sheet of paper), but it wreaks absolute havoc on our internal organs if it is ingested.
Hooray for chemistry!
Thanks Faderjockey!
see this is why i’m glad i have such smart listeners. Thanks for the info. After posting the show and listening back to it I really wasn’t sure if the poison was U238 or not. So its Polonium 210!
