Siri is the new Apple personal assistant, voice recognition app. It can do so many things, and apparently one of them is comedy! Part of the challenge of designing software that reacts to people in real language is dealing with unexpected input. This isn’t a new problem, drop an F bomb in Zork, and you get the response “Such language in a high-class establishment like this!” And Zork came out in 1979, people haven’t changed that much since then.
As soon as you can talk to a piece of software someone is going to curse, another is say dirty suggestive things. And apparently Siri has the response to all of it. Pop Culture references, Philosophical queries, foul requests. All of that can be found on the hilarious blog. Shit Siri Says. People submit conversations, and we all get to laugh.
But Siri, as a concept has never been far from Apple’s mind. For a bit of a jaw dropping experience take a look at one of the original concepts for a digital assistant, the Knowledge Navigator.
Who says the internet can’t teach you things. The Adult industry has long since used the taboo subject of Student / Teacher flings as fodder for a genre of its films. But this site, in response to those films is hilarious.
Blackboards in Porn is an academic studeny on the contents of the blackboards found in the background, foregrounds and underground world of internet porn. Taking the example below
T
The Site breaks down the equations used on the blakcboard as
1. S=0 A=0
2. S=1/4 A=1/16
3. S=1/2 A=1/4
4. S=1 A=1
5. S=2 A=4
6. S=3 A=9
And indicates that the text presented is actually an 8th grade level, and breaks down some of the text and what my or may not be the intent of the equations. The author usually comments on the penmanship and then adds in a fantastic last paragraph for each one.
“Finally, the teacher should make sure that her students keep their focus on their work. She only has three students, so can’t complain too much about the pupil-teacher ratio. The teacher is giving all her attention to the lone male student, allowing the two female students to talk to each other, thus reinforcing gender stereotypes of women in maths, despite being female herself. Sadly, it is this kind of attitude which leads to the ‘Math class is tough’ talking Barbie and low numbers of women choosing to study maths in further and higher education.“
It had to be said, but today is a day dedicated to nonsense and all of its silly little ilk. I love April Fools day, not just because of what it represents, but also because a truly good prank takes dedication, hard work and a sense of style. its easy to be mean, and funny. Its even easy to set up prat falls and slapstick, in theory but a truly great prank takes epic effort. Today we salute some which come close, some which fail and some which aren’t pranks at all but sure seem like it. Its an action packed episode from front to back so I hope that you enjoy.
