I have finally found a soup to nuts Steampunk machine / design concept that I can really get behind. From the looks of things each and every little detail is taken care of. I hate it when the aesthetic doesn’t extend correctly and seamlessly to the peripherals. With this design shown over at Yanko Design, they thought of everything. From the speakers to the mouspad having a tiny little desk lamp over it. Even the cabling is wrapped to look the part.

The machine appears to be a mac mini, and is inscribed with The Apple Company, Gearless Calulating Device. The best part is if you follow through to the original designer and you have the extra coinage you too can have one of these beauties built for you by Old Time Computers.

One step forward and two steps back.

The start of the semester is still in full swing in my office, from fixing plotters to reimaging computers we are busy as anything. All that work during the day, all that crazy busy schedule leaves me mentally drained by the end of the everything.

As it turns out the video portion of the Cruftcast should have been a lot smoother, but i haven’t had the energy to put into making it look right. There will be an episode up by wednesday, and hopefully a much shorter duration in between thereafter. Its all in the workflow, and I’ve been doing work in audio so long that my video skills are beyond rusty

Tonight’s show will be a bite sized CaffiNation. I’ve changed the way the backchannel works here at the CaffiNation. For things that are work safe and on topic you’ll start to see a lot more bite sized posts appear on the website throughout the week from design geekery to caffeinated goodness mini articles and references will pop up and show you the way. To say its been a tough weekend would be an understatement. Our family suffered a loss, my grandmother passed this Saturday. Despite the fact that we knew this wasn’t far off, it doesn’t hurt any less. As our family deals with this I only ask you to hug those close to you just a little bit tighter. Loss is never an easy thing to share, nor explain. While I dedicate this episode to my Nana’s memory, i can’t help but feel that its a small tribute. I struggled thinking about whether it was appropriate to do something like this but basically came to the conclusion that the only way to honor those no longer here is to keep doing what you do, but trying to do it just a little bit better.

Sadness aside, throwing myself into the content I’ve amassed a very eclectic pile of things to cover for today’s show.

Right now my cowboy hat has a fish in it… Where did everything go wrong? It started with playing ball in the house, but thats a story for another time. We’re rapidly approaching crunch time here at the Lair and the clock is winding down quite quickly. Some days you just can’t do it. you can’t pull your scattered thoughts into a seemingly sensible format for a talk show. Today is one of those days but I have an excuse, you see my coffee pot broke this morning… Now don’t start wailing and nashing your teeth yet i have plenty of coffee creation methods at hand but my recent love of the Press Pot coffee had me in a very foul humor after the glass broke.

So that nonsense aside and a wonderful weekend with the family behind me i turn now to the task at hand giving you some semblance of an episode to entertain you on your travels about thew front half of the week. An Existential masterpiece of an episode from a producer who just doesn’t feel all there right now.

So I sit here looking for a bit more energy this being the first week back to work and a heavy workload to boot. I honestly should be asleep planning lab implementation strategies or something but I wanted to bring this episode to you fine listeners out there.
